MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Western Illinois University School of Management and Marketing faculty attended the Illinois Business Education Association (IBEA) annual conference in Springfield, IL. This conference brings together high school and post-secondary business instructors to discuss teaching strategies and new technology trends in business education.

WIU's College of Business and Technology has participated in this conference for 13 consecutive years in multiple capacities. Assistant Professor for Management and Marketing Honey Zimmerman has presented at the conference for several years on current supply chain issues, careers in supply chain management and logistics and incorporating supply chain lessons into existing business courses.

College and career readiness are hot topics in secondary education.

"Helping to train high school educators on current trends and issues in the global business environment ultimately helps their students be more prepared to enter the workforce and college, depending on the student's desired path," said Zimmerman. "Additionally, WIU's presence at conferences will hopefully put our University on the minds of those influencers when they have conversations with their students about steps after high school."

Management and Marketing Instructor Michelle Howe presented at this year's conference on resume writing techniques and shared her knowledge as a Certified Professional Resume Writer. Howe provided her attendees with curriculum resources that can be applied to their classrooms, including resumes and a PowerPoint to guide educators in teaching these concepts to their students.

"IBEA has a strong relationship with business educators on all educational levels," said Executive Director of the IBEA Gary Hutchinson. "Many of the presentations come from college and university educators, offering background information, as well as data from research. IBEA also offers scholarships to Illinois undergraduate students studying to become certified business education teachers and graduate students who wish to be certified or are taking classes to expand what they teach."
