Cumbie Named COFAC Development Officer at WIU

MACOMB, IL – Michael "Mick" Cumbie will become the Western Illinois University College of Fine Arts and Communication Development Officer, effective Monday, July 10.

Cumbie is currently an agent with Purdum Gray Ingledue Beck, Inc. in Macomb and was interim chief executive officer for the YMCA of McDonough County in 2021. He previously served as the COFAC director of development from 2006-2015.

"I am pleased to welcome Mick back to Western, and to our Development team," said WIU Foundation Executive Officer Brad Bainter. "The experience he has gained after leaving Western, and his knowledge of Western and the College of Fine Arts and Communication, will be a big plus to Western as we move forward in our $100 million campaign."

Prior to joining the YMCA, Cumbie was the senior director of development at the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences for the University of Georgia from 2016-20; the vice president of advancement for the College of Coastal Georgia from 2015-16; chair of WIU's Military Science department from 2001-06; chief of counterintelligence at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Belgium from 1998-2001; chief of the Intelligence Analysis Section of U.S. Forces Command in Georgia from 1996-97; senior intelligence officer for the Department of Defense Olympic Task Force in Georgia from 1995-96; director of operations for the Counterintelligence and Security Battalion of the 902d Military Intelligence Group from 1994-95; commander and team chief for the Operations Security Support Detachment of the 902d Military Intelligence Group from 1992-94; assistant operations plans officer for the 2nd Armored Division (Forward) in Germany from 1990-92; chief of counterintelligence for the III Corps (Forward) in the Netherlands from 1989-90; counterintelligence analyst for the Operations Security Support Detachment of the 902d Military Intelligence Group in Maryland from 1987-89; and platoon leader and company executive officer of the 2nd Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division (Forward) in Germany from 1983-86.

Cumbie received his bachelor's degree in Administrative Management from Clemson University and his master's degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma.
