WIU AFED to Host Real Estate and Appraisal Learning Submit Sept. 28

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University School of Accounting, Finance, Economics and Decision Sciences (AFED) will host a Real Estate and Appraisal Learning Submit from 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28 on the Macomb campus.

This is the second annual event and features two exciting sessions for students in the morning, including a presentation at 11 a.m. from alumnus Matt Miller, the CEO for Rally Appraisals Inc. The afternoon includes an opportunity for students to engage one-on-one with local professionals in a question and answer table fair.

This event will include a special keynote luncheon that features a business economist from the St. Louis Federal Reserve bank, Kathleen Navin. Navin will provide an overview of the real estate market outlook in the Midwest.

"We are grateful to the family of former Finance Professor and Real Estate enthusiast George Potter for continuing to support this event," AFED Director Jessica Lin said. "It's an excellent opportunity to bring our students and industry professionals together while highlighting the strengths of our Finance major at WIU."

The summit events include:


  • 9:30-10:45 a.m., Stipes Hall, room 121: Is Barbie's House Available? A comparison between short-term and long-term rental investment opportunities

  • 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Stipes Hall, room 121: Appraisals and the Importance of Market Trends with CEO of Rally Appraisals Matt Miller.

  • 12:30-2 p.m., University Lamoine Room: Keynote Luncheon, "The Real Estate Market Outlook for the Midwest." Registration ($20) is required.

  • 2-4 p.m., Brattain Lounge: Meet and Greet with regional real estate professionals. Learn more about the job opportunities within the profession by asking your own questions or borrowing some of ours.


Luncheon participants can register at wiu.edu/cbt/afed/real_estate.php; otherwise, all events are open free to the public with casual dress.
