Standberry Named Executive Director of Human Resources

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Western Illinois University has named Cassandra Standberry executive director of Human Resources and Title IX coordinator, effective Dec. 23.

Standberry has served as the interim executive director of Human Resources and Title IX coordinator since August 2023. In her permanent position at WIU, she will also oversee the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access (EOA).

"Cassandra brings a wealth of experience, talent and knowledge to this position. I am excited about working with her in this role," Vice President for Finance and Administration Paul Edwards said. "The department and the University will benefit greatly from Cassandra's leadership and skills as her work, and the work of her team, will positively impact each of us."

Standberry graduated with a bachelor's degree in Management from the University of Phoenix. Prior to joining WIU, she worked in various positions for the Commonwealth of Virginia State government sector agencies, including the Virginia Department of Treasury from 1999-2001, Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice from 2001-2018 and Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations from 2018-2019, and she recently served as the director of human resources for Richard Bland College of William and Mary from 2019-2023.

The executive director of Human Resources is responsible for all talent acquisition and development, oversees benefits and labor relations, promotes a highly diverse and high functioning workforce, coordinates development and assimilation of University Human Resource policies and procedures and identifies trends and innovations in all aspects of Human Resources. This position serves as the subject matter expert for the University in all that encompasses Human Resources.

It is the mission of the office of Human Resources to develop, implement and support programs and processes that add value to WIU and its employees, leading to improved employee satisfaction, growth and retention, while being committed to empowering students, faculty and staff to lead dynamic and diverse organizations and communities.
