Johnson Receives WIU Presidential Scholarship

MACOMB, IL – High school senior Cadence Johnson, of Beecher, IL has been awarded a Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, in conjunction with the AIM High Commitment scholarship. These scholarships cover four years of tuition, fees, a double residence hall room and a standard board for eight semesters.

"From the first tour I took of Western, I just felt at home. Everyone was super excited to talk to me and interested in my plans. It seemed Western wanted me for more than just a number," Johnson said.

In high school, Johnson participated in bowling, track and field, journalism, yearbook, Bobcat Pride, National Honor Society, Math Club, Scholastic Bowl, band, choir, Student Council, band officers, class officers, Illinois Music Education Association, Health Occupations Students of America, Environmental Club, Spanish Club, Art Club, Drama Club, Prairie State and is a Sunday school teacher at Peace Lutheran Church.

At Western, Johnson plans to major in Music Therapy and Premedical Studies. Additionally, she hopes to be involved in multiple student organizations including the marching band.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must first be awarded WIU's AIM HIGH Western Commitment scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by proof of volunteer and community service.
