MACOMB, IL – High school senior Braden Shepka, of Chicago, IL, has been awarded a Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, in conjunction with the AIM High Commitment scholarship. These scholarships cover four years of tuition, fees, a double residence hall room and a standard board for eight semesters.

"I chose WIU because it was where I saw myself for the next four years," Shepka said. "There were many deciding factors including my mom's experience at Western; my admissions counselor, Audrey Barrientos encouraged me to do the CSI camp over the summer and I loved it, and I just feel like Western is a second home for me."

In high school, Shepka was involved in student council all four years, participating in the Chess Club, and National Honor Society, is a Local School Council member, and is a member of the Continuous Improvement Working Plan Team.

At Western, Shepka plans to major in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) and minor in Forensic Chemistry and Emergency Management. He hopes to be involved in Alpha Phi Sigma, Go West security, Minorities in Blue, RockyTHON, and the WIU Food Pantry and be an Admissions Ambassador.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must first be awarded WIU's AIM HIGH Western Commitment scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by proof of volunteer and community service.
