MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University College of Fine Arts and Communication and the WIU Department of Theatre and Dance will present SummerStage performances of Disney's "Newsies: The Broadway Musical" on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, in Hainline Theatre.

Friday's show will begin at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday will feature two performances; a matinee at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 7:30. General admission tickets are $20 and tickets for WIU students and seniors are $17.

To purchase tickets, visit, or contact the WIU box office in person or by phone at (309) 298-2900.

The show is directed by Meagan Morrow, who recently received her master's degree from WIU in directing. Musical direction will be done by Macomb Junior High School choir director, Ethan Ivey and choreography is led by WIU head of dance, Donald Laney. Additionally, the show will feature an entire family as Andrew, Julia, Alexander and Cecilia Kluesner will all take part in the production.

"Newsies: The Broadway Musical" is set in turn-of-the-century New York City and is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right.
