Guest Japanese Saxophone Recital Sept. 30

MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University School of Music will present "A Celebration of Japanese Saxophone", a Guest Recital featuring saxophonists Nathan Mertens and Kenta Saito and pianist Tomoko Kashiwagi at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall. The group will also hold a masterclass at 5 p.m.

Nathan Mertens is an assistant professor of saxophone at the University of Colorado Boulder and an active soloist and chamber musician throughout the world. A lecturer at Japan's Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and First Prize winner at the 2019 Adolphe Sax Competition, Kenta Saito serves as concertmaster of the Blitz Philharmonic wind ensemble in Tokyo. Tomoko Kashiwagi is an associate professor of piano and collaborative piano at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville as well as artistic director of Fayetteville's Chamber Music on the Mountain. The trio will present a program highlighting contemporary Japanese composers.

This residency is sponsored by the Performing Arts Society.

The 7:30 p.m. performance is open free for general seating.
