Just Hired: Cassie Loos
October 3, 2024
Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.
MACOMB, IL - - Meet Cassie Loos, a Spring 2016 Fine Art graduate focused in Ceramics, who is a part of the 2024-25 cohort for Imagine Art through AmeriCorps.
"They're a nonprofit that helps artists with disabilities create artwork and make a presence in the art world," Loos said.
The opportunity started by directly reaching out to the Imagine Art program director which led to him suggesting Loos formally apply. Loos said WIU helped her by preparing her for the interview process and teaching her the right way to get a portfolio together.
"I learned how to talk about my work, how it can relate to the job at hand and how my knowledge can benefit other programs," Loos said. I learned how to wear many hats and talk about different mediums. My major helped to get the job by not just having the piece of paper, but also my genuine curiosity about ceramic art. I had a mentor at WIU, and he had instilled the idea that anyone can make anything out of clay, and I carry that with me wherever I go."
Loos plans to continue following WIU and hopes to present at a workshop some day.
