WIU School of Music Presents Annual Orchestra Concerto Concert

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University School of Music will present its annual Orchestra Concerto Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall. The student winners of the 2024-25 competition will perform with the WIU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rich Cangro.

The annual Orchestra Concerto Concert features students who are selected as winners of the Concerto/Aria/Composition Competition by a panel of external judges. The student soloists represent some of the finest musicians in WIU's School of Music. The program also presents an opportunity to premiere a student composition selected by the School of Music's theory/composition faculty for its artistic and creative merits.

The student winners of the 2024-25 competition are:
Kieran McLain, cello
Stanesha Deligence, soprano
Martin Medrano, violin
Drake Miller, oboe
Eden Beier, soprano
Libbey Lazowski, composer
Helena Iacob, violin

Cello Concerto No. 1 - Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)

- Kieran McLain, cello

Quandro m'en vo from La Boheme - Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924)
Elle a fui, la tourterelle from Les contes d'Hoffmann - Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880)
- Stanesha Deligence, soprano

Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 62 - Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
I. Allegro ma non troppo
- Martin Medrano Gonzalez, violin

INTERMISSION
Oboe Concerto, Op. 45 - Eugene Goossens (1867-1958)
