Amy Spelman Retirement Reception on July 30

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University is celebrating the retirement of Amy Spelman, assistant vice president for Alumni Relations, with a reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 30 at the Alumni House.

Spelman, a 1998 WIU graduate with a Master of Science in Kinesiology (Sport Management), has served the University since 1995. Before starting her current position in 2022, she also served as WIU's Alumni director, associate director and as the assistant director of development and annual giving.

"Amy has been the heart of alumni programming at WIU for the past 24 years and in University Advancement for 30 years," Interim Executive Director for Advancement and Alumni Relations Amy Crosby said. "Thanks to her leadership, generations of Leathernecks have stayed connected and engaged. From homecoming to alumni events across the country, she has provided steady guidance and made every alumnus feel welcome. Her legacy is one of lasting relationships and a WIU community made stronger by her dedication. We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best in this next chapter."

Spelman has been an active member of the Leatherneck and Macomb community, with her memberships including:


  • Council for Advancement and Support of Education member since 1995

  • Former WIU Foundation Board of Directors Ex-Officio member

  • Former Executive Board member and chair of the National Education Alumni Trust (NEAT) Board of Advisors

  • Former Member of University Strategic Planning Committee

  • Member of the previous University committee on re-accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

  • WIU Athletics Purple and Gold Auction Committee member - served as chair in 2003 and 2004, raising nearly $70,000;

  • Former WIU Athletics Advisory Board member

  • Western Illinois University Council of Administrative Personnel (COAP) – past president

  • Former "We Care" campus beautification committee member

  • Former WIU Admissions Enrollment Network Committee member

  • Former College of Arts and Sciences Editorial Board member

  • Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Adviser

  • St. Paul Catholic Church member

"Amy Spelman dedicated her career to bringing together Leathernecks from near and far to celebrate Western Illinois University," WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. "WIU is grateful for her work that built relationships and created space for Leatherneck Alumni to reunite, share their stories and continue to support their alma mater. Amy made a lasting, positive impact on Alumni Programs and WIU. We wish Amy all the best in her future endeavors."
