Higher Values in Higher Education; Western Illinois' Strategic Plan Launched
September 24, 2004
MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University President Al Goldfarb used the annual Founders’ Day (Sept. 23) celebration to unveil the University’s Strategic Plan in his State of the University address: “Higher Values in Higher Education: A Plan for Western Illinois University.”
Goldfarb discussed WesternÂ’s core values: academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth and social responsibility; how these values can be put into action; and highlighted universitywide initiatives and progresses to date.
The FoundersÂ’ Day ceremony on the Macomb campus featured a luncheon and a 30-minute program which included a procession of the University officers, deans and Board of Trustee members; the traditional bell ringing by Lana Myers, a retired University employee and granddaughter of Edwin DeCamp, who first rang the bell Sept. 23, 1902 to signal the start of classes at Western Illinois State Normal School; music by the Lamoine Brass Quintet faculty ensemble; and President GoldfarbÂ’s address.
Goldfarb presented his message later that afternoon to faculty, staff and students at the Quad Cities campus.
