Agriculture Department Open House

MACOMB, IL – At Western Illinois University, students in the agriculture program have exceptional opportunities to learn about and experience many areas of the discipline outside of the classroom.

Prospective students are invited to attend Western’s department of agriculture’s open house Saturday,
Oct. 22 to learn more about what WIU has to offer. Department faculty and current students, as well as agriculture alumni, will be on hand to answer questions and lead tours of the department’s facilities and labs, the campus, the University farm and Livestock Center, the bull test and ram test stations and swine facilities. Participants are also invited to attend a luncheon, compliments of the Crop Protection Services, with faculty and students. Following the luncheon, open house participants are invited to cheer on the Leathernecks football team as they take on Western Kentucky. The open house, luncheon and football game are free of charge.

Two $250 scholarships will also be awarded to two open house participants. The open house begins with registration at 10 a.m. at the WIU Livestock Center, directly north of Western’s campus.

Registration - 10 – 10:45 a.m.
Welcome - 10:45 – 11 a.m., William Bailey, agriculture department chair, and Western President Al Goldfarb
Tours - 11:05 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (horticulture and forestry facilities, campus,
Knoblauch Hall, agriculture technology management lab and trading lab)
Lunch & Student Panel - 12:30 – 1:45 p.m., Knoblauch Hall
International Studies - 1:45 – 2 p.m., Knoblauch Hall
Tours - 2 – 3:20 p.m. (campus, swine facilities, ram test, alternative crops plots and bull test station)
Football game - 4:05 p.m., Hanson Field

To register by the Wednesday, Oct. 19 deadline, go online to www.wiu.edu/ag. Send your name, address, daytime phone number, e-mail address, the name of the school you are currently attending, anticipated date of attending Western and number attending the open house, luncheon and football game.
