MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University Office of Admissions was recognized by the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion in St. Louis for its continuing assistance in coordinating work relief for Army Reserves Spc. Wayne Quesenberry, an admissions and records I specialist at Western.

When Quesenberry, a third-year reservist assigned to the 733rd Maintenance Company in Canton (IL) reports to duty, WIU admissions staff must pick up his duties in the interim.

Quesenberry cited Jennifer Mason, assistant director of undergraduate admissions, and Paula Rhodes, admissions and records supervisor, as the two people he can always count on to help out.

"On behalf of the U.S. Army, I would like to thank Jennifer Mason and Paula Rhodes on their outstanding support of the Armed Forces," Quesenberry said. "And a special thanks to Paula for her support outside the office with Western Illinois University Veterans of Foreign Wars support group and all she has contributed throughout the years."

To honor Mason's and Rhodes's dedication, Quesenberry arranged a reception and Western Illinois' Army ROTC Cpt. Bill Gardner presented each with an "Excellence in Recruiting Award" for having "demonstrated the spirit of cooperation and teamwork embodied in the ARMY STRONG concept," which was signed by Commanding Lt. Col. Junio-Omaru Barber, U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion St. Louis.

Quesenberry has more than 17 years of service to this country: 11-years 9-months with the Navy on active duty; five years of Navy Reserves; and his present three years with Army Reserves. He has served in Iraq twice, in Operation Southern Watch (1997) and in Desert Storm/Desert Shield (1991).
