WIU Students Win Top Spots at Manuscript Contest

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University students recently brought home three top prizes from the 2007-2008 Central Illinois Chapter of Institute of Internal Auditors (CICIIA) manuscript contest.

According to Accountancy Professor Lucia Peek, the contest is designed to encourage internal auditing research and writing among students at colleges and universities in central Illinois. Students from WIU, Bradley University and Augustana University submitted papers.

In the Undergraduate Division, Aaron Becker, a senior accountancy major from West Chicago, won the second place $400 award for his manuscript, "Sunbeam Fraud Case to be used for Auditor Training."

In the Graduate Division, Alex Lippert, a master of accountancy student from Chatham (IL), won the second place $400 award for his manuscript, "Investors Confidence: A Review of the SEC and PCAOB;" and Holly Leuchtenberg, a master of business administration student from Walnut (IL), won the third place $200 award for her manuscript, "A Study of the Many Roles an Internal Auditor Takes with Regard to Business Ethics."

The CICIIA also awarded a $100 check to Western's student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (SCIMA) and the Zeta Beta Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi for their promotion of the manuscript contest and the internal auditing profession.
