MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois University's accountancy department, in combination with CPAexcel, will offer a certified public accountant (CPA) review course Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons, starting 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 through Friday, Dec. 11. The course will be held on WIU's Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.

According to Gregg Woodruff, associate professor of accountancy, the review course includes two weekly class sessions with in-class instructional videos, an instructor who will review exam questions, a supplemental online course, review books, software and a set of flash cards. The regular price for the review is $2,000, but individuals who sign up through Western get a discounted price of $1,495.

The review course is slated for 5:30–8:30 p.m., Friday Sept. 11 and will be held Friday evenings during the same time slot. In addition, the review course will meet Saturdays at 10 a.m. beginning Saturday, Sept. 12. The class will conclude Friday, Dec. 11, but Saturday, Dec. 12 will be held in reserve as a "catch-up" day if there is a class cancellation due to inclement weather.

The Macomb campus course will be held in Stipes Hall 207, with the exception of: Friday, Sept. 11; Saturday, Sept. 12; Friday, Nov. 13; and Saturday, Nov. 14. On those dates, the Macomb campus CPA review course will be held in Horrabin Hall 7.

The Quad Cities campus course will be held in: room B16 on Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12; room 105 from Friday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Dec. 5. The Friday, Dec. 11 review course at the Quad Cities campus will be held in room 114.

In September, the review will cover business and environment concepts (BEC), and regulations (REG) coverage will begin in September and will be completed in October, Woodruff said. Financial accounting and reporting coverage will begin in October and be completed in November. Auditing and attestation (AUD) will be covered in December.

An instructor-led CPA review course provides candidates with the discipline needed to successfully complete the CPA exam, he added.

"The review course becomes part of the candidate's weekly schedule. Making the effort as a member of a group will keep the candidate going and make it more fun. All members of the CPA review course are working toward the same goal -- becoming a certified public accountant. That CPA certificate and license are essential credentials in today's accounting and business environment. The CPA is not only a source of pride for the individual, but should also result in increased job opportunities, quicker promotions and higher salaries," Woodruff explained.
