Be Healthy, Be Strong: Eating/Wellness Symposium Feb. 24

MACOMB, IL -- Be Healthy, Be Strong: Eating/Wellness Symposium is slated for 1:30-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center at Western Illinois University in Macomb. According to the symposium sponsors, WIU and the Macomb community have collaborated to provide a variety of opportunities to learn about nutrition, eating and wellness.
The activities, information and services available at the screening include:
- bone-density screenings offered by McDonough District Hospital Outreach Services ($5 for students and $10 for faculty/staff);
- tours of Western's Spencer Student Recreation Center;
- a Hy-Vee information table, featuring recipe and nutrition information from Hy-Vee's registered dietitian;
- screenings offered by the University Counseling Center;
- Spencer Student Recreation Center's resource table offering access to the website www.mypyramid.gov;
- Sodexo's resource table with information about nutrition and eating (see www.balancemindbodysoul.com);
- the Women's Center resource table with cards for the "I'm Strong. I'm Beautiful" theme on display, as well as other resource materials;
- the Women's Center showing the 30-minute documentary "Slim Hopes" in the Keeney Room throughout the event;
- a "Muscle Mass-culinity" presentation at 2:30 p.m.;
- information about personal-training options offered at Western;
- personalized assessments (including meal analysis and a personal consultation);
- health care providers from Western's Beu Health Center will be available at the symposium; and
- giveaway items, including yogurt and water products.
Be Healthy, Be Strong: Eating/Wellness Symposium is sponsored by the Eating Concerns Coalition at WIU; the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Resource Center; Beu Health Center; Students T.A.L.K. Peer Educators; Campus Recreation; dietetics, fashion merchandising and hospitality (DFMH) department; health sciences department; McDonough District Hospital; Hy-Vee; Sodexo; University Counseling Center; and the Women's Center at WIU.
