MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University Department of Accountancy and Finance, in combination with CPAexcel, will offer a certified public accountant (CPA) review course Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons, starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 through Saturday, Dec. 11. The course will be available on WIU's Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.

An informational session about the review course is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in Stipes Hall 207 (Macomb campus) and Room B16 (WIU-QC facility, 60th St.).

According to Gregg Woodruff, associate professor of accountancy and finance at WIU, the review course includes two weekly class sessions with in-class instructional videos, an instructor who will review exam questions, a supplemental online course, review books, software and a set of flash cards. The regular price for the review is $2,000, but individuals who sign up through Western get a discounted price of $1,495.

The review course will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 and will be held Friday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. In addition, the review course will be held Saturdays, beginning at 9 a.m., starting Saturday, Sept. 18. The course will conclude Saturday, Dec. 11.

The Macomb campus course will be held in Stipes Hall 207. The Quad Cities campus course will be held in room B16.

In September, the review will cover business and environment concepts (BEC). Auditing (AUD) and regulations (REG) will be covered in October, Woodruff said. Financial accounting and reporting coverage will begin in November and be completed in December.

An instructor-led CPA review course provides candidates with the discipline needed to successfully complete the CPA exam, he added.

"The review course becomes part of the candidate's weekly schedule. Making the effort as a member of a group will keep the candidate going and make it more fun. All members of the CPA review course are working toward the same goal -- becoming a certified public accountant. That CPA certificate and license are essential credentials in today's accounting and business environment. The CPA is not only a source of pride for the individual, but should also result in increased job opportunities, quicker promotions and higher salaries," Woodruff explained.
