MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University students, faculty and staff will soon be able to surf the "wireless net" securely when University Technology (uTech) implements a secure wireless system next month for the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.

According to Mike Rodriguez, WIU's chief technology security officer, the secure wireless system will further protect University and personal data. WIU-SECURE, which was launched as a pilot program during Summer 2011, will be expanded to Western's Macomb and Quad Cities facilities (including the Caxton Building, WQPT and the Riverfront Campus).

The transition from non-secure wireless to the WIU-SECURE system is expected to begin Oct. 3 and conclude Oct. 28, Rodriguez added. The non-secure wireless network (known as wiuwirelesslan) will transition to limited Internet access.

For more information, contact Rodriguez at MA-Rodriguez@wiu.edu or the uTech Support Center at 298-2704.
