"I took this photograph in the middle of winter. I loved being able to see the color of the leaf from fall, but being able to see it sticking out of the ice as well."

Graphite on paper

"The images are graphite drawings on paper that will be used in a short film I am directing, "Red Hot Jazz". The drawing, "Shoes," is based on a scene with dancers, filmed at the Coliseum Ballroom in Davenport. The other drawing, 'Mark Dial', is of the film's director of photography. This drawing also comes from our shoot at the Coliseum (Col) Ballroom."

Orange Fish

Assorted reclaimed and carved wood on sturdy backing

"Living on the Mississippi is a great treat.  The wildlife surrounds us in the air, on the land, and in the water.  Due to the opaque nature of the Muddy Mississippi, we often miss what is going on below the surface where there is a complete ecosystem of plants and animals.  Fish in particular represent Good Fortune and Success.  This piece utilizes reclaimed Osage Orange, a tree most common for its fruit, the Hedge Apple.  This wood is hard and dense, which quickly dulls tooling.  This particular tree was being removed due to construction.  It was stored in the rafters of a county conservation shed for 30 years, before being passed on to be turned into wood art pieces."

Acrylic and watercolor on canvas

"I paint in both acrylics and watercolors, often blending the two mediums within a single piece to create visual depth. There seems to be a lack of color in the world nowadays and I try to visually captivate my viewers with bold, whimsical colors that draw the eye into my paintings. I'm a senior at Western with a studio arts minor and have already started my museum studies masters program early through Western's online extension classes while still based in Macomb. I have won Best in show at Vivid Dreams art show in 2013 based out of Aurora Illinois."
