"I enjoy using color and I like religious-cultural themes along with my figures in the compositions having a type of illustrative and "cartooney" look to them. I use mostly bristol board paper, pens, markers and colored ink to derive the brightest colors which will stand out more. I want to display a type of emotion in the art I do: usually a happy and joyous demeanor to reflect the colors and movement of the piece and vice-versa."

Morning Walk Greatest Hits

Morning Walk Greatest Hits by Kristi Mindrup

Photograph book

"When I first started photographing flowers each morning during my daily walk, I imagined I might capture 20 or so varieties of flowers during the growing season.  To my surprise, from March through November, I found a new flower subject with every new morning by looking closely at neighbor's landscaped gardens, a small park, a wildflower ditch, a cemetery, and while traveling.

This photo book features a collection of my favorite flowers from my 2015 #morningwalks.  Compiled as a "Greatest Hits" album, the flowers are captioned with flower-themed musical lyrics, songs, and artist names to combine my interest in flowers with my love of music.

Each photograph was taken with nothing fancier than an iPhone 5C.  I used Instagram to edit and post flowers on social media.  Lessons learned, art doesn't require expensive equipment, and when you look for it with intention, beauty is everywhere."

Description of work: "Starting in elementary school as a young artist, influenced by video games and a menagerie of cartoon influences, I was always fascinated by imaginative fantasy and science fiction illustrations and found a great niche developing detailed, intimidating mythical beasts. This piece is inspired by my fondness for Tolkien and it took me a solid week to complete with art pens and colored pencils. I prefer drawing rather than painting, because it allows me to show intensity through detailed line work."
