Dr. Janaya Shaw teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. She earned both her B.A. in English Education and M.S.Ed. in Reading from Western Illinois University, her M.A. in Educational Administration from St. Xavier University, and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Chicago State University. Dr. Shaw has had a wealth of classroom experience with K-12 literacy instruction and college level instruction. Her research interests include literacy development, performance assessment, trends in middle level education, and technology.

Dr. Shaw is also committed to service. Her commitment to service began in 2000, on the campus of WIU, through her membership in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Projects that she works with annually include Operation BigBookBag, Mwanimugimu Essay Contest, Hattie McDaniel Breast Cancer Awareness, Project Cradle Care, Youth Symposium, March for Babies March of Dimes, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and USA Swimming/SWIM 1922.
