Step-by-Step Directions for Applying to the WIU Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership

Note:  As early in this process as possible (upon initial contact), a meeting (phone, Skype, or face-to-face) needs to be held to discuss the potential student’s career goals so a determination can be made if the WIU EdD in Educational Leadership is an appropriate degree and if it is to determine which option is most appropriate.

Step 1: Complete the EDL doctoral program application. Doctorate_Application.pdf

Step 2:  Secure three references using the reference formReference_form.pdf

Step 3:  Email Jerrie Walters a copy of your resume.

 The application, references and resume can be scanned and emailed to Jerrie Walters ( or FAXED (309-298-2070) or mailed:

Step 4:  Apply online to the Graduate School. 

Step 5:  Send official copies of your transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate coursework to the graduate school.  You do not need to request WIU transcripts.  Additionally, if you have not taken any coursework since you last attended WIU, you do not need to send new transcripts. Transcripts need to be sent to:

Step 6:  Schedule your interview.

Step 7:  Prepare your educational leadership portfolio.

Step 8:  Complete your interview, writing sample, and share your leadership portfolio at an interview. 

Step 9:  GRE Scores.  The GRE is a graduate school requirement and must be completed prior to being accepted into the doctoral program and the start of classes.  If you've already taken the GRE, the scores must be within five years of beginning your program.  You would need to request that GRE send a copy of your official score to the WIU Graduate School (Sherman Hall, Macomb, IL 61455).
