Step-by-Step Directions for Applying to the WIU Superintendent Licensure Program

Step 1: Complete the EDL superintendent program application.

Step 2:  Secure your superintendent’s recommendation using the reference form (Superintendent Recommendation and Statement of Support).  You do not need to request letters of reference.

Step 3:  Email Jerrie Walters a copy of your resume.

The application, references and resume can be scanned and emailed to Jerrie Walters ( or FAXED (309-298-2070) or mailed:

Step 4:  Apply online to the Graduate School. 

                Indicate the semester you intend to begin coursework.

Step 5:  Send official copies of your transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate coursework to the graduate school.  You do not need to request WIU transcripts.  Additionally, if you have not taken any coursework since you last attended WIU, you do not need to send new transcripts. Transcripts need to be sent to:

Step 6:  Schedule your interview.   (More information will be forthcoming about scheduling your interview). Interviews will most likely be held in person or Skype.  You will need to create a Skype account (there is no charge/fee for a Skype account).  Please send a Skype request to EDL.DEPT

Step 7:  Prepare your educational leadership portfolio.  The portfolio needs to be available electronically or it needs to be mailed to Jerrie Walters (See above).

Step 8:  Complete your interview (most likely via Skype), writing sample, and share your leadership portfolio at your interview. 

Step 9:  Complete the WIU Superintendent Licensure Program Candidate Acknowledgements and return to Jerrie Walters.
