Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW)

The Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW) Program is available to teachers or students pursuing a career in special education as a preschool, elementary, or secondary teacher in a public, private, or parochial Illinois school.

Benefits

SETTW exempts students from paying tuition and mandatory fees for up to four academic years at an eligible institution (visit College Illinois! to view a complete list of eligible institutions).

By receiving this tuition waiver, students agree to teach in Illinois in the field of special education for two of the four years following graduation. If this commitment is not fulfilled, the total amount of program benefits will convert to an unsubsidized loan, which must be repaid by the student.

Application

To apply, submit an Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW) application. Applications must be received by ISAC on or before March 1 immediately preceding the academic year in which you are requesting the tuition waiver. In order to retain the tuition waiver, students must be continuously enrolled.

Awarding will take place late summer, and recipients will be sent a Notice of Eligibility Letter. In order to receive funds, please forward a copy of the Notice of Eligibility Letter to the WIU Financial Aid Office for awarding.
