Tuition and Fees and Other Costs

Undergraduate Students

Since Summer 1999 Western Illinois University has offered an undergraduate cost guarantee for tuition, fees, room and board rates for each new class of entering students. The guaranteed rates remain in effect for four years if students maintain continuous enrollment. Incoming students in a degree program that requires more than four years to complete, will benefit from the guaranteed rate until the expected time of degree completion.

Beginning Summer 2008, students who have earned a qualifying associates degree immediately preceeding their enrollment at Western Illinois University are given a one-plan reduction.

Students who are residents of Illinois, plus students who are residents of the following border counties -- Ralls, Pike, Lincoln, Clark, Lewis or Marion counties in Missouri or Dubuque, Jackson, Clinton, Scott, Muscatine, Louisa, Des Moines or Lee counties in Iowa -- are subject to special procedures regarding tuition. Specifically, students attending WIU's main campus in Macomb, living in WIU residence halls or at a local Illinois address and commuting students enrolled in nine or more semester hours will be treated as in-state students for tuition purposes for their first academic year of enrollment, after which they must establish and maintain Illinois residency to retain the in-state tuition benefit. Commuter students enrolled for eight semester hours or less will be treated as Illinois in-state students for tuition purposes.

The following border counties are included for new students beginning Summer 2005: Ralls, Pike and Lincoln in Missouri; and Dubuque, Jackson and Clinton in Iowa.
