BFA in Art - Teacher Education

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art - Teacher Education Option is an education degree based on the professional degree in the visual arts. The structure, content, and time requirements of this degree enable students to develop the range of knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to teach art at the K-12 levels. This degree prepares students to earn K-12 teacher certification in the State of Illinois.

The BFA in Art - Teacher Education does not require a portfolio for admission into the program. Students will be accepted to WIU as a BFA Art - Teachers Education (TEd) major.

The teacher education curriculum consists of the University General Education requirements, a 60- semester hour major program which includes: the Art core, a full range of specialized studio art courses, art history courses, art methods and theory courses; and the WIU College of Education and Human Services requirements.

Honors:

There is an honors curriculum available for all Art degree programs that students may complete if they qualify for the University Honors program. See Art Honors.
