WIU Symphony Orchestra

Kenny Lee, Conductor

The Western Illinois University Symphony Orchestra features outstanding orchestral musicians from both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The WIU Symphony Orchestra regularly performs works from all musical styles and periods, including repertoire from the symphonic canon as well as works by underrepresented, marginalized, and living composers. The main performing venue for the orchestra is the acoustically-vibrant COFAC Recital Hall.

Additionally, orchestra students have access to the following opportunities:

  • Sectionals and masterclasses with the WIU school of music faculty and guest artists from major conservatories and orchestras
  • Performance tours throughout the country
  • Participation in Concerto/aria/composition competitions
  • Opera productions

Membership for string players in the orchestra is determined by audition. Non-string players are placed in the orchestra based on studio faculty recommendation. Dr. Kenny Lee is the Director of Orchestral Activities and is the primary conductor of the orchestra.
