WIU Mourns Death of Department of English Employee

MACOMB, IL -- Laura Sadler Cripe, 51, chief clerk in the Western Illinois University Department of English passed away Feb. 22 in Macomb.

"The Western Illinois University community mourns Laura's death," said President Jack Thomas. "We extend our condolences and thoughts to her family and friends."

A 1982 Macomb High School graduate and 1987 WIU alumna, Cripe began working as a chief clerk at WIU in 2012 in the chemistry department, transferring to mathematics in July 2013. She had served as chief clerk in the Department of English since September 2015.

She is survived by her mother, Judy Sadler, one brother, Tom, and sister-in-law, Holly Stovall, one niece and one nephew and longtime partner Richard Hazen.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of arrangements.
