MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Staff Clerk Tracy Meredith, of the Office of Sponsored Projects, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for January.

Meredith was hired as a chief clerk in Transportation Services in October 2011 and was promoted to her current position in August 2012.

According to her nominator, Meredith has contributed to the effectiveness of the Office of Sponsored Projects by performing not only her duties, but taking on additional responsibilities associated with a vacant position.

"She assumed a large portion of the responsibilities of the compliance specialist while still completing everything in her position," said her nominator. "She also created new databases for use in tracking and reporting grant proposals and awards, which has increased the efficiency of the office and saved considerable funds that used to be paid to an outside vendor."

The nominator added that Meredith "confidently and accurately" responds to questions and concerns related to the vacant position, making sure there is no gap in assistance provided to administrators, faculty, staff and students.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Connie Lincoln at CM-Lincoln@wiu.edu.
