MACOMB, IL – John F. Kennedy High School senior Samantha Bennett, of Cedar Rapids, IA, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher (or SAT equivalent of 1390), and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, are eligible for the scholarship.

Bennett plans to major in actuarial science or chemistry.

"Western is the perfect size for me, had the majors I was looking for and everyone I encountered on my visit to campus was extremely welcoming and friendly," said Bennett. "Western's inclusiveness and diversity attracted me as well."

In high school, Bennett was actively involved in a number of activities, including theatre, varsity improv, the speech team, girls' tennis, National Honor Society, marching band and color guard and served as her school's mascot.
