MACOMB, IL -- Leatherneck pride is alive and well at Western Illinois University, as demonstrated by the success of the first phase of the Alumni Plaza and Mascot Memorial project.

More than $75,000 was raised during the first campaign, which ran from March 1-June 30, 2018, and more than 500 WIU alumni and friends purchased personalized bricks. And just in time for Homecoming, which takes place this weekend, the University Union has created a "Map of Bricks," where donors can go online to find just where their brick is located. The Alumni Plaza and Mascot Memorial Plaza is located directly behind the lower north entrance of the University Union.

The brainchild of Ashley Katz, assistant director of the University Union, and Kirsten Todd, assistant director of marketing for University Housing and Dining, uTech webmaster Sean West created the "Alumni Plaza Map of Bricks" so alumni and friends can easily find their brick(s) when visiting the plaza.

Phase II of the Alumni Plaza and Mascot Memorial is underway. Individuals who purchased bricks after July 1 of this year will have their bricks placed in the plaza next summer at the project's completion.

Bricks available include large bricks (7 in x 14 in.; four lines of text, up to 25 characters per line; $225) and small bricks (4 in. x 8 in.; three lines of text, up to 16 characters per line; $100).

For more information about the project, or to buy a brick, visit wiu.edu/alumniplaza.
