MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Events Coordinator Shelby McAvoy has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for June 2019.

McAvoy began working at WIU in May 2017 as an events administrator in Intercollegiate Athletics. The position is now known as events coordinator.

McAvoy's nominator said she puts in extra time to coordinate events for Athletics, even traveling to other cities to help.

"She recently assisted a colleague in a fundraising event where she organized all the meetings, followed up with the donors for the event and worked with service providers for the event," said her nominator. "She works with other campus constituents to promote Athletics and she handles all donation requests and keeps in compliance with rules and regulations. She shows WIU's students and colleagues that, with hard work, any task can be accomplished and accomplished well."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
