MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Events Administrator Associate Gayle Heller has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for October 2020.

Heller works in the University Union Scheduling and Event Services office.

According to her nominator, Heller has a gift for analyzing logistical processes to improve the daily operations of both the Union, and scheduling events around campus. As staffing has changed in the office, Heller has accepted additional responsibilities and welcomed the challenges.

"Gayle stepped up in a major way this summer and continues to do so this semester," said her nominator. "As event guidelines were developed to ensure the health and safety of the WIU community over the summer months, a centralized scheduling protocol was also implemented. With this new development, Gayle was presented with the large task of managing the influx of event requests that began streaming in on a daily basis. Without Gayle's help with this, we would not have been able to pull off the implementation of this process in such a short amount of time."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Melinda McFadden at MA-Mcfadden@wiu.edu.
