MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University First Year Advising Center Office Manager Sara Wauer has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for January 2023.

Wauer was hired at WIU in March 2022, in her current position.

According to her nominator, Wauer amazes people daily with the enthusiasm she demonstrates in everything she does.

"Her desire to create a warm and welcoming environment by purchasing monthly decor makes the students that visit the office feel safe, respected and welcomed," the nominator said. "She has an ability to care for the student workers while keeping high expectations and work productivity. She is compassionate yet firm, and the students respond well to her demeanor."

The nominator added that Wauer has updated the registration process for new students and helps with the Leatherneck Launch Summer Orientation programs.

"Her attitude, and on-the-spot problem-solving skills were confirmation to the new students and their guests that WIU was the correct choice for their education," the nominator said. "Her nomination highlights her core values of respect for all, celebrating diversity, a strong work ethic, and her drive to be a lifelong learner as reasons she is most deserving of this award."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
