Biernbaum Retirement Reception June 15

MACOMB, IL - - John "JB" Biernbaum, associate vice president for Student Success at Western Illinois University, will retire after 29 years of service, effective June 30. A reception will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15 in the University Union Lamoine Room.

Biernbaum began his career at WIU in 1994, serving in a variety of roles including residence hall director, complex director, assistant director of Residential Facilities, director of Residential Facilities and assistant vice president for Student Services. Biernbaum became the associate vice president for Student Success in 2010.

During his time at Western, Biernbaum has served as a facilities liaison to WIU Athletics, the University liaison to the St. Louis Rams Summer Training Camp, a member of the University Master Plan Committee, the Student Services Development Officer, an instructor for University 100 courses, faculty/staff advisor to Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Lambda Chapter, the Purple and Gold Auction Committee co-chair, along with several other committees and responsibilities.

"We cannot thank JB enough for his 29 years of dedication to WIU," said Interim Vice President of Student Success John Smith. "He has made a lasting impact on Western and his skill sets and institutional knowledge will be truly missed. Please stop by to celebrate JB's service to WIU and enjoy light refreshments."

Outside of the University, Biernbaum is an active member of the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) Alumni Board of Directors, the Spoon River College Board of Trustees, the Illinois State University College Student Personnel Advisory Board and the Humane Society of McDonough County Board.
