Amanda Schulz Obituary

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Western Illinois University alumna and associate director of Graduate Studies Amanda Schulz passed away April 17.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home.
"Amanda Schulz embodied professionalism. She was one of the most reliable people I have ever known. And, most of all, she was devoted to her work, to the grad office and to this University," Interim Provost Mark Mossman said.
Schulz began her career at Western in 2010 as an office support specialist in Kinesiology. During her 15 years at the University, she worked her way up, serving as an office manager in Kinesiology and administrative assistant, admissions and records associate, assistant director and associate director all in the School of Graduate Studies.
"Amanda brought calm, thoughtful leadership to the Graduate Studies office, guiding others with quiet dedication and deep insight. She was a model for how to move through the world -- forthright, courageous and full of heart," Interim Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Programs, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness Christopher Pynes said.
Schulz received her bachelor's degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration in 2003 and her MBA in 2005 from WIU.
"Amanda Schulz was a student-centered professional and colleague who built connections and pathways for students to achieve their goals," WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. "As a team member of the School of Graduate Studies, Amanda was knowledgeable, positive, professional and dedicated to students and WIU. Her daily impact created a positive experience for faculty, staff, and especially students who worked with her. The WIU community keeps Amanda's family, friends, and all who knew her in our hearts."
Schulz is survived by her children, Tyler and Avery Schulz of Macomb, IL; sister, Ellen (Greg) King of Bushnell, IL; brother, Victor (Alisha) Voight of Cedar Rapids, IA; four nieces and nephews, Austin (Brandon) King, Blake and (Taylor) King, Morgan (Nick) King-Hull, Kaylee (Alex) Johnson; 10 great nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles and cousins; mother-in-law Kathy Schulz and her extended dance and baseball family.
