WIU Family Day BBQ Competition Crowns 2025 Champions

MACOMB, IL - - The smoke has cleared and the winners have been crowned at Western Illinois University's seventh annual Family Day BBQ Competition & Tasting, held Sept. 13. The event, hosted by the Office of Student Engagement and the School of Agriculture, drew students, families, alumni and community members for an afternoon of food, fun and Leatherneck spirit.

The 2025 competition results are as follows:

Ribs
1st Place – Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity
2nd Place – Phat Daddy's BBQ

Brisket
1st Place – Phat Daddy's BBQ
2nd Place – Sodexo

Student Division
1st Place – Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity

People's Choice – Tooth Decay

Overall
1st Place – Phat Daddy's BBQ
2nd Place – Sodexo Smokers

The Family Day BBQ also featured live music from Newhouse Band, family-friendly activities, vendors, a competitive bag tournament and a public tasting of brisket, ribs and specialty items. The festivities concluded with the Leatherneck football game at Hanson Field.
