COAP Names von Kaenel EOM For January

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL — Western Illinois University Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations Jennifer von Kaenel has been named the Council of Administrative Personnel (COAP) Employee of the Month for January.

Von Kaenel was nominated for her dedication, leadership and service to WIU and the surrounding community.

"It is an absolute honor to nominate Jennifer von Kaenel for recognition of her strong dedication, leadership and service to WIU and the greater community," her nominator shared.

During her time at WIU, von Kaenel has brought consistency and care to every role she has held, including corporate relations, development, fundraising and community engagement. Over the past year, she played a key role in the planning and implementation efforts for the University's Innovation Campus initiative. Von Kaenel spent months coordinating with University partners, managing budgets, leading teams and working with committees across multiple institutions. Her professionalism, resilience and ability to see the bigger picture made her a valued contributor to the effort.

Von Kaenel's work also reflects WIU's mission to advance equity, social justice and opportunity. She serves as a connection point between the University and the community, helping promote access and engagement while upholding high standards of integrity. Her efforts support WIU's role as a resource for economic, educational, cultural, environmental and community development throughout the region.

Outside of her professional role, von Kaenel is actively involved in community service. As president of the Moline Kiwanis Club, she dedicates her time to serving children across the region while proudly representing WIU. Often seen wearing purple, she serves as a visible ambassador for the University and frequently volunteers beyond regular work hours, including traveling to Macomb to support WIU events.

Von Kaenel is known among colleagues for her kindness, humility and willingness to serve. Her leadership and commitment to both WIU and the community make her a deserving recipient of this recognition.

The COAP Employee of the Month award recognizes WIU employees who go above and beyond their regular duties. Nominations may be submitted by supervisors, colleagues, faculty, staff, students or members of the community. Monthly recipients receive a reserved parking space for one month and recognition from the University.
