WIU Sociology Professor Elected President of Midwest Sociological Society

MACOMB, IL — Patrick McGinty, professor of Sociology at Western Illinois University, has been elected president of the Midwest Sociological Society (MSS) for the 2028–29 term. He has also been elected to serve on the MSS Board of Directors from 2026–30.
The Midwest Sociological Society is the primary regional professional organization for academic and applied sociologists across nine Midwestern states. The organization promotes sociological research, teaching and professional development among scholars and practitioners working in a variety of academic and applied settings.
McGinty has served the Midwest Sociological Society in multiple leadership capacities over the years. Most recently, he served as Chair of the MSS Annual Meeting Committee, contributing to the planning and success of the society's annual conference.
McGinty's election recognizes his contributions to the discipline of sociology and reflects WIU's strong faculty leadership within regional and national professional organizations. His service to MSS enhances the visibility of WIU throughout the Midwest and beyond.
