Knowles Named 2025 Employee of The Year
January 12, 2026
MACOMB, IL – Danielle Knowles, School of Nursing laboratory staff member at Western Illinois University, has been named the 2025 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Year.
Knowles exemplifies dedication to WIU through her consistent support of the School of Nursing, its students, faculty and staff. She plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, organized and fully functional laboratory environment, ensuring equipment is prepared and operational for classes, skills testing and examinations. Her attention to detail and willingness to assist faculty during exams help create a smooth and supportive learning experience for students.
Knowles frequently goes above and beyond her assigned responsibilities by arriving early, staying late and working holidays to ensure students can complete required lab hours. She readily accommodates students facing unexpected challenges, including illness or personal matters and does so without seeking recognition. Her focus remains on meeting needs as they arise and supporting student success whenever possible.
In addition to her daily responsibilities, Knowles serves as a key liaison between the University and external healthcare facilities. Through her strong professional relationships, she has helped secure valuable donations, including an infant bed from Carthage Hospital. Her connections with former colleagues continue to positively benefit the School of Nursing.
When McDonough District Hospital donated hospital beds, Knowles ensured appropriate space was prepared and coordinated their setup in advance of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation visit. Her efforts were instrumental in presenting Currens Hall in excellent condition for this critical evaluation of the Nursing Department.
The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Year Award was established in 2010 through an endowment created by Al and Elaine Goldfarb. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the annual award, along with a gift from the Civil Service Employees Council.
On behalf of the Civil Service Employees Council, congratulations to Knowles on her outstanding service and dedication to WIU.
