MACOMB, IL - - Mark Behymer, Facility Operations director in the University Union Administrative Office at Western Illinois University, has been named the January 2026 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Behymer has been an integral part of the University Union for more than 22 years, serving Western Illinois University in multiple roles including Assistant Technical Director, Technical Director and Facility Operations Director. Often working behind the scenes, his contributions are essential to the success of countless campus events.

Throughout his tenure, Behymer has provided sound reinforcement services for every WIU commencement ceremony, ensuring a high-quality experience for graduates, families and guests. His technical expertise has also allowed WIU to host major entertainment events over the years, including concerts, comedians, off-Broadway shows and children's productions.

In addition to his technical skill, Behymer is admired for his loyalty and dedication to Western Illinois University. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the University is represented at its best and demonstrates strong pride in WIU and its mission.

As the January 2026 Civil Service Employee of the Month, Behymer will receive a $100 stipend (before taxes), a plaque, a reserved parking space and recognition through a University press release. His photo will also be displayed by the Office of Human Resources. He will also be eligible for consideration for the Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in December.

The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month Award was established to recognize Civil Service employees who demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm, effort and quality in job performance by going above and beyond their regular job duties. Nominations are placed as a permanent record in the recipient's personnel file.
