MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois women's basketball team secured the program's first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating Lindenwood 71–65 at the Ford Center. Mallory Shetley added 18 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting night, and Allie Meadows contributed 10 points and three assists. Madison Davis provided a spark off the bench with 10 points.
As a team, the Leathernecks shot 55.3 percent from the field and controlled the glass with a 38-22 rebounding advantage. Western Illinois also capitalized at the free throw line, converting 15-of-19 attempts to hold off the late Lindenwood push.
With the win, Western Illinois claims the OVC Tournament title and punches its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since joining the conference.
