March 13, 2026
MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University hosted its Spring Student Leadership Conference on Saturday, February 28, where Tahir M. Khan, interim director of the University's Cybersecurity Center, presented "Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."
Khan's presentation highlighted the importance of today's leaders who will become tomorrow's decision makers to understand how artificial intelligence is transforming the way we learn, work, create and make decisions
The presentation discussed several key points, including identifying AI models, understanding the datasets used to train applications, estimating the cost of training AI models and examining the accuracy of the latest AI models in solving mathematical problems.
In addition, the presentation addressed notable AI-related incidents to consider when integrating AI into applications and how corporations are increasingly moving toward AI integration across their systems.
During his closing remarks, Khan emphasized that future leaders will not be replaced by AI if they continue learning new tools, critically question AI-generated outputs, use AI responsibly with sound moral and ethical judgment, and remain accountable during times of crisis.
Khan concluded by noting that AI tools cannot build trust, human leaders and guide organizations through unprecedented times, creating opportunities for growth and helping the next generation thrive.
