MACOMB/MOLINE, IL — Former Assistant Director of Western Illinois University Information Technology Christopher Jacob David, 72, of Macomb, passed away peacefully March 8, in the arms of his wife, son and daughter-in-law after a long battle with Interstitial Lung Disease.

David worked at WIU for more than 15 years, where he was known for his quiet leadership, strong work ethic and dedication to mentoring international students. He was deeply committed to supporting others and made a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike.

Born in 1953 in Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar) to Joel, an Anglican pastor and Sarah, a schoolteacher, David was known from an early age for his intelligence, spirited nature and loyalty to his friends. As Burma's political and economic conditions declined, he sought opportunity abroad, joining the merchant marine and working as a radio officer on Singapore-based ships from 1976 to 1990. His years at sea took him across the globe, fostering a lifelong appreciation for diverse cultures and cuisines and igniting a passion for cooking.

David met his wife, Dorothy, in 1977 and together they built a strong and lasting partnership. In 1990, they immigrated to Macomb, where Dorothy pursued her master's degree. During that time, David left his seafaring career to care for their newborn son, Jason and made the life-changing decision to quit smoking and drinking the day his son was born. He later earned a master's degree in information technology from WIU and continued his career in the field.

He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity and love of food. An exceptional cook, he delighted in bringing people together, whether through backyard barbecues, large Christmas gatherings for the local Burmese community or weekends spent in the kitchen with loved ones.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his son, Jason; his daughter-in-law, Annie; his sister, Jane; and his niece, Cindy. He is also fondly remembered by the many friends, colleagues and students whose lives he touched.
