Communication Professor Brook Fisher to guest lecture at WIU TODAY

MACOMB, IL - - Professor Brooke Fisher Liu will be giving a public lecture at 3:45 p.m Monday, March 30 in the University Union Capital Room. The lecture is titled "Navigating the storm: Essential risk communication for crisis survival."

A key failure of the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent crises is ineffective communication. While widely recognized, these failures do not have to occur. In this talk, Dr. Brooke Liu will cover the essential elements of risk communication that can contribute to crisis readiness, or the capacity for organizations, communities, and individuals to survive and thrive during crises like pandemics, tornadoes, and other disasters.

Dr. Brooke Fisher Liu is a Professor of Communication at the University of Maryland. Her research investigates how strategic communication contributes to organizational and community crisis readiness, especially in the area of pandemics. Her scholarly work includes over 100 publications that have been cited over 10,000 times. Dr. Liu was also elected a Fellow of the International Communication Association in 2024.
