“Pieowa” Documentary Screening to Benefit WIU Food Pantry

MACOMB, IL - - A community screening of the documentary Pieowa: A Piece of America will be held from 3-5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 15, in the Garden Lounge at the Malpass Library on the Macomb campus. Sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Sociology & Anthropology and University Foundation Office and will be serving Pie. Admission is free but monetary or non-perishable food donations are encouraged as the event serves as a fundraiser for WIU Food Pantry.
Directed by Author and Filmmaker Beth M. Howard, the film explores how pie and the act of sharing it can bring people together across cultures and communities.
Featuring stories of diverse pie makers in Iowa, the documentary highlights themes of kindness, generosity and unity. A conversation with Howard will follow the film.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the WIU Food Pantry. The Student Association of Nutrition Education (SANE) club, along with students from ANTH 420, "Cultural Feast" will bake the pies.
Howard, author of "Making Piece and World Piece," is known for her work promoting healing and connection through pie. Her latest project, Pieowa: A Piece of America (2025), continues that mission through film.
