MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University is proud to highlight the outstanding achievement of Computer Science graduate student Abiodun Damilare Adebanjo, who earned the Best Poster Paper Award in the Computer Science category at the Illinois State Academy of Science Annual Meeting, held in Peoria, IL.

The conference featured more than 122 poster presentations and 22 oral presentations across multiple scientific disciplines.

Adebanjo presented a research project titled, "AI-Based Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDS/IPS) for Cloud Environments using a Digital Forensics Analysis Framework." The project addresses one of today's most critical global challenges, securing cloud-based systems in an era of rapidly evolving cyber threats. By integrating artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital forensic analysis, the research introduces a more adaptive and intelligent approach to detecting and preventing cyberattacks, including zero-day and previously unknown threats.

This achievement reflects a collaborative effort under the mentorship of Tahir M. Khan, associate professor in the School of Computer Sciences and interim director of the WIU Cybersecurity Center. Throughout the research process, Khan provided guidance, technical insight and academic support that helped shape both the direction and impact of the work.

We maximize our students' potential by providing opportunities to collaborate on projects and guiding them to present and share their creative, innovative work with the community," WIU Associate Professor of Computer Science Tahir Khan said.

In addition to this recognition, Adebanjo has been invited to speak at the upcoming Cybersecurity Across Disciplines Summit 2026, scheduled for Tuesday, June 23–Thursday, June 25, at Moraine Valley Community College. The summit, funded by the National Science Foundation and hosted by the National Cybersecurity Training & Education Center, brings together experts and emerging leaders in cybersecurity to explore innovative solutions across disciplines.

At the summit, Adebanjo will deliver a TED Talk–style presentation expanding on related research themes, further contributing to the broader cybersecurity and academic community.
