MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University retiree Kathryn Alice "Kathy" Lantz, 71, of Colchester, IL passed away early June 7, at her home, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to WIU and the many students, faculty and staff she supported throughout her career.

Kathy was born May 17, 1955, in Quincy, IL, to Wilbur and Helen (McPherson) Boekhaus. She was a 1973 graduate of Southeastern High School in Augusta and went on to earn both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Western Illinois University. On June 22, 1985, she was united in marriage to David Lantz at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bowen. He survives.

Kathy devoted 23 years of service to WIU, retiring Dec. 31, 2010, as an Administrative Assistant. During her time at WIU, she was a longtime employee of Casa Latina Cultural Center, where she provided support and leadership to the campus community. For a period, she also served as interim director of the center. Her work reflected a deep commitment to students and a welcoming, supportive environment on campus.

Following her retirement from WIU, Lantz continued serving her community, beginning part-time work as a secretary at the McDonough County Farm Bureau in 2011. She was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bowen.

Kathy is survived by her husband, David Lantz of Colchester; her brother, Ken (Labetta) Boekhaus of Villa Rica, GA; a niece, Megan (Evan) Daugherty; two nephews, Mike (Deb) Hufendick and Corbin (Melissa) Boekhaus; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fredrick Boekhaus; a sister, Carol Hufendick; and a nephew, Mark Hufendick.
