Hired in August 2021, Fietterer has served as a Transfer Admissions Counselor. Working with students transferring from Northwest Illinois as well as all out-of-state institutions, helping guide them through the transfer process and supporting them on their path to becoming Leathernecks.

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - -The July Western Illinois University Council of Administrative Personnel (COAP) Employee of the Month is Taylor Fietterer, Admissions counselor under the Division of Student Success.

Fietterer consistently demonstrates outstanding performance through her enthusiasm, dedication to student success and commitment to Western Illinois University's core values. She approaches every interaction with a positive attitude and a genuine desire to help students achieve their goals.

"Fietterer goes above and beyond her normal job responsibilities by serving as a valuable resource for incoming transfer students. Recently, she has taken the initiative to assist students with financial aid questions, developing an extensive understanding of awards, scholarships, grants and other financial aid processes that extend well beyond her job description. Her willingness to learn and share this knowledge has helped countless students navigate complex situations and find the support they need," her nominator said.

Student success is always at the center of Fietterer's work. She consistently seeks solutions for students and when a matter falls outside her area of responsibility, she ensures they are connected with the appropriate office or resource. Her commitment to ensuring students receive accurate information and timely assistance positively impacts both the student experience and the University's reputation.

Fietterer also contributes significantly to the positive image and direction of WIU through her collaborative spirit and leadership within her team. She willingly takes on new projects, provides thoughtful insights and ideas and works closely with her colleagues to improve processes and outcomes. Her enthusiasm and professionalism make her a trusted team member and a positive influence on those around her.

"What truly sets her apart is her genuine care for others. She takes the time to build meaningful relationships with her students and even creates fun games to engage them and allow them to mingle and build friendships and remembers personal details that make students and colleagues feel valued and supported. She serves as an excellent representative of WIU and is often one of the first people transfer students encounter during the admissions process," her nominator said.

Fietterer clearly demonstrates the core value of Educational Opportunity at the highest level by helping students navigate their higher education journey and ensuring they have access to the information, resources and support needed to succeed. She also exemplifies Academic Excellence through her commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. Whether expanding her knowledge of financial aid processes or seeking new ways to better serve students, she consistently strives to improve her expertise so she can provide the highest level of service.

Fietterer is an exceptional asset to WIU. Through her dedication, initiative, positive attitude and focus on student success, she exemplifies the University's core values and is highly deserving of this recognition.

The COAP Employee of the Month award recognizes exceptional performance by WIU employees who go above and beyond their regular duties, based on specific criteria. Nominations can come from supervisors, colleagues, faculty, students, staff or members of the community. Monthly winners receive a reserved parking space for one month and recognition from the university.
